‘Them And Us’ is a project proposal based on furthering the development of my observations toward mankind’s relationship with the natural environment. A project set in two stages; firstly, the diverse landscape of England will be the backdrop to a series of four documented actions. Using glassmaking skills and a mobile furnace, I will create a bird relevant to each location. This doomed attempt to mimic nature’s beauty will be elaborated upon by the action of ‘setting the bird free’. The brief airborne moment and resultant destructive landing will be the climax to the action. A photographer will also travel to the hilltop, forest, beach and city locations to capture these dramatic ‘actions’ in stills and moving image.
The results will be documented and reproduced to high quality in book form. The book will act as the communicating tool between artist and audience, a chronological document, illustrating the projects challenges through seasons and diverse environments. During documentation I wish to control the impression of my place in the environment, therefore the dates of these actions will not be advertised.
